Canadian teams to try and beat Bruins
The UCLA men’s volleyball team travels to Edmonton, Canada
to participate in the University of Alberta Tournament today and
Saturday.
Today they go up against Manitoba and Saskatchewan, and tomorrow
they face Western Ontario and Alberta. Manitoba has won the
Canadian national championship for the past two years.
UCLA head coach Al Scates is looking forward to using these
preseason matches to experiment with different lineups.
“We have the talent,” he said. “It’s
just a matter of putting the players in the right spots. I just
have to maximize their abilities.”
The matches will be played using the Canadian scoring
system.
Games are played with rally-point scoring to 25 points instead
the 30-point system used in the NCAA.
The Canadian teams are about to start their regular season, so
they’ll be ready for the Bruins.
“This is their chance to beat us,” Scates said.
“This is their only chance.”
