Pac-10 w.volleyball roundup: Sun Devils reborn in game four


Junior outside hitter Natalie Harris tallied a team-high 19
kills and 13 digs as Arizona State rallied from a two-game deficit
to top No. 22 Arizona Friday night in Tempe, 26-30, 23-30, 30-24,
36-34, 15-10. “This is the best comeback I’ve ever seen
in volleyball,” first-year Sun Devils’ coach Brad
Saindon said in a press release. “We battled, we never gave
up, and we were scrappy. I couldn’t be happier to be on the
winning side of things.” All seemed lost for Arizona State
(6-6, 1-2 Pac-10) in game four before a decisive 12-1 run got the
Sun Devils back into contention. Senior Kim Mehlhorn sparked the
surge, recording three of her career-high seven service aces during
that stretch. Kim Glass posted 31 kills in a losing effort for the
Wildcats (6-7, 0-3), who will likely fall out of the national
rankings this week for the first time since 1998.

STANFORD 3, WASHINGTON 0 ““ Four Stanford
starters recorded double-digit kills as the No. 4 Cardinal cruised
past No. 13 Washington, 30-23, 33-31, 30-24, Saturday night in Palo
Alto. Junior Ogonna Nnamani finished with a match-high 19 kills
while Stanford teammate Katie Goldhawn tallied 45 assists and a
career-high 17 digs as the Cardinal (10-2, 4-0), remained in a
first-place tie with California.

CAL 3, WASHINGTON 1 ““ In a match-up of
the undefeated, No. 11 Cal dealt No. 13 Washington its first loss
of the season Friday night in Berkeley, defeating the Huskies
25-30, 30-22, 30-21, 30-25.

USC 3, OREGON 0 ““ Emily Adams notched a
team-high 16 kills as No. 1 USC swept visiting Oregon, 30-14,
30-20, 30-16, Saturday night at the Lyon Center.
