WOMEN’S TENNIS: UCLA women’s tennis
season opener against UNLV this Friday has been postponed. UNLV
coach Kevin Cory contacted Bruin coach
Stella Sampras Webster Tuesday, telling her the
Running Rebels would only have four available players for
Friday’s match. “It just wasn’t worth it,”
Sampras Webster said, adding that they may reschedule the match
later in the year. According to Sampras Webster, some of the
players could use the break after the Pac-10 Indoors this past
weekend. However, some players are eager to start their season.
“It’s disappointing,” said sophomore
Feriel Esseghir. “I felt like we’re
kind of gaining energy and momentum.” The Bruins’ first
match will now be Jan. 28 against Loyola Marymount.
SOFTBALL: The UCLA softball team was picked to
finish first in the Pac-10 by the Pac-10 coaches in the Pac-10
preseason poll which was released Tuesday. The Bruins were also
picked first by the ESPN Top 25 Coaches Poll which came out last
week. UCLA received six of the eight first place votes and received
48 points. After the Bruins were Arizona, California, Washington,
Stanford, Arizona State, Oregon and Oregon State. The Bruins open
their season on Feb. 7 against Santa Clara at the Long Beach State
Tournament.
BASEBALL: The preseason Pac-10 coaches poll
picked UCLA to finish seventh with 21 points. Stanford was picked
to finish first with 62 points, followed by Arizona State, Arizona,
USC, Washington, California, UCLA, Oregon State and Washington
State. The Bruins start their season on Feb. 3 with a home game
against UC Riverside.

Puffer Award for Loyalty and Contribution and the Jack Bariteau Jr.
“Most Inspirational” Award.
