Arizona basketball coach Lute Olson received a
contract extension through 2009. The state Board of Regents
approved the deal on Thursday, which is heavy in incentives and
could reach up to $1.1 million per year. He is guaranteed $700,000.
“I’m very happy with the contract,” Olson said in
a statement. “I’m very certain that over the next five
years we’ll have a lot of success in that time.” The
70-year-old Olson has coached the Wildcats to a 519-127 record,
four Final Fours and one national championship over 21 seasons at
the helm. He is the winningest coach in Arizona basketball
history.
