Incumbent Paul Koretz was re-elected to the the Los Angeles City Council for the 5th District, which includes Westwood and UCLA.

Koretz led his challenger, Westwood Neighborhood Council board member Mark Herd, with 74 percent of the total 23,107 votes counted, according to the L.A. city clerk’s website.

Experts had long predicted Koretz’s victory in the election, because he is an incumbent and is more well known in the community than Herd.

The Councilman was first elected to the office in 2009.

The councilman’s campaign manager, David Giron, said Koretz plans to concentrate on subjects his constituents bring up, instead of focusing on one particular issue.

“Now, I think the councilman will have his ear to the ground and (focus on) listening to his constituents, taking issues as they come,” Giron said.

Koretz will be sworn in on July 1.
