News, UC

The original version of the headline said the budget deal was about $15 billion. In fact, the budget deal is approximately $115 billion.

Legislative leaders and Gov. Jerry Brown announced an approximately $115 billion budget deal Tuesday, which includes additional funding of $25 million to the University of California.

The Legislature passed a spending plan of about $117 billion Monday.

The deal will increase spending on social services and educational programs, including an additional $97 million allocated to the California State University system and the expansion of Medi-Cal coverage to undocumented children from low-income families.

The final plan excludes additional monthly funding for families who have another child after they start receiving welfare. The lawmakers’ proposal to allow home child care providers to unionize was also left out of the agreement.

Brown has until July 1 to sign the budget bill.
