UCLA men’s volleyball coach John Speraw joins all three Daily Bruin beat writers this week for a special edition of Set Six. The team is in its last stretch of nonconference matches and is gearing up for a grueling final month of regular season play.

Take a listen as the Bruin coach discusses the strengths of this year’s UCLA squad, how he started coaching the sport and more.

Walters joined the Bruin as a freshman in 2014 and contributed until he graduated in 2018. He was the Alumni director for the 2017-2018 academic year, Editor in Chief for the 2016-2017 academic year and an assistant Sports editor for the 2015-2016 academic year. Walter spent time on the football, men's basketball, men's volleyball, men's soccer, men's water polo and rowing beats.

Share joined the Bruin as a junior in 2015 and contributed until 2016. He spent time on the men's soccer and men's volleyball beats.

Grant Sugimura |

Alumnus

Sugimura joined the Bruin as a freshman in 2015 and contributed until 2017. He was an assistant Sports editor for the 2016-2017 academic year and spent time on the women's basketball, men's volleyball, women's volleyball, beach volleyball, men's soccer and swim and dive beats.

Academic student workers and graduate student researchers represented by the United Auto Workers union recently ended a nearly six-week strike in which they called for better working conditions and equitable wages. The contract stipulates pay increases for all workers – for some, pay increases of up to 80% – as well as anti-harassment policies and increased childcare support. However, the negotiations have struck controversy among some UAW members dissatisfied with the results of the contract. What are your thoughts on this issue? Only the voices of the bargaining team were heard during the negotiation process – the contract is not all-encompassing of student workers and should not have been ratified. The mediation resulted in a realistic contract for academic workers at this time. The agreed-upon result generally covered what the strikers were asking for. I have feelings about this that are not described in the options above. The contract is neither good nor bad and/or this issue does not directly affect me as a student.
