LA County Public Works Director Mark Pestrella said at the 8 a.m. press conference that his department is focusing on recovery and repopulation of affected areas. He said it is not safe to touch or move fire debris, and his department will be assisting in debris removal.

Pestrella said the water supply area and reservoir water is being used as part of firefighting efforts. He added that people who are in areas proximate to fires should boil water they plan to use for cooking or drinking.

“The municipal water system continues to suffer poor water quality due the introduction of ash and debris into our reservoirs, into our filtration systems,” he said. “So there are specific areas that we are asking for water to be boiled.”
