LAPD investigates Gayley Avenue stabbing of three people

This post was updated Nov. 2 at 10:09 p.m.

UCPD and LAPD are investigating a stabbing that occurred on Gayley Avenue at about 2 a.m. Saturday.

Three people were attacked by a lone person and received medical treatment, according to a Clery Timely Warning crime alert. The suspect was described as a white man.

Officers found one stabbing victim at the crime scene, said Jeffrey Chobanian, a UCPD patrol lieutenant, in an emailed statement. Two additional stabbing victims later brought themselves to the Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center emergency room.

All three are in stable condition and expected to survive, he added in the statement.

The incident occurred as students gathered for off-campus Halloween parties, many of which took place at fraternity houses on Gayley Avenue.

UCPD believes the incident happened after a dispute, Chobanian said in the statement. He added that the victims were reported to be UCLA students, but have since stopped cooperating with law enforcement.

UCPD must release Clery Timely Warnings when certain crimes are reported on or near the UCLA campus, in compliance with federal law.

The incident is still under investigation as of 4 a.m. Saturday, according to the alert. People with information can contact UCPD at (310) 825-1491.
