UCPD is investigating an alleged drug-facilitated aggravated assault that occurred on Gayley Avenue on Wednesday.
A UCLA student attended a party on the 600 block of Gayley Avenue – where UCLA’s fraternities are located – and saw someone add an unidentified powder to his drink before he was pressured to drink it, according to a Thursday UCPD Clery Timely Warning alert.
UCPD does not know the identity of the perpetrator and if they are affiliated with UCLA, said Richard Mejia, the director of emergency communications and information, in an email statement.
People with information related to the incident should contact UCPD, the alert stated. UCPD shared safety information and resources for people impacted by similar incidents, including UCLA SafeRide – which offers free transportation to community members at night – and UCLA’s Counseling and Psychological Services.
UCPD encouraged community members in the alert to not leave their drinks unattended, to not accept drinks from strangers and to contact emergency services if they feel ill or disoriented.
Mejia said in the emailed statement that community members should take care of each other.
“UCPD encourages community members to look out for one another, never leave drinks unattended or accept drinks from unknown sources, and seek help immediately if they or someone with them begins to feel ill, disoriented or unable to care for themselves,” he said in the statement.
