Q&A: Wake Owl band frontman shares inspiration

Vancouver-based indie band Wake Owl is comprised of four artists that, although separated by space, come together to make music. Faculty and students of the UCLA Herb Alpert School of Music will be performing tonight for the seventh annual “It’s a Woodwind World” concert. One of the pieces will be Trio, Op. 2 by Leon Levitch, a Jewish composer, Holocaust survivor and UCLA alumnus. Levitch began composing music at an early age, and was able to learn from a fellow refugee and pianist at an Italian internment camp during World War II.
