Bill AB 1825 declares bans on books of diverse perspectives illegal in California

A California law making book bans illegal went into effect Jan. 1. The bill, authored by Al Muratsuchi who represents California’s 66th Assembly District, requires state-funded public libraries to create a publicly accessible policy that outlines the selection and removal of books, as well as a process for patrons to contest the library material. UCLA study finds greater health inequities exist in minority communities

Thousands of workers from AFSCME 3299 and UPTE-CWA 9119 to strike across UC

Two unions have called on nearly 60,000 workers to strike across the UC starting Wednesday. Experts discuss fentanyl’s role in overdose deaths, share prevention plans

California had over 7,000 opioid-related overdose deaths in 2022. Nearly 87% of them were linked to fentanyl. Overdose deaths among young people have been rising for years, said Joseph Friedman, a resident physician and substance abuse researcher at UC San Diego. Read more...
