Michael Waterstone begins term as new dean of UCLA School of Law

Michael Waterstone took over as the UCLA School of Law dean Aug. 1, the university announced Tuesday. Waterstone was previously the dean of Loyola Marymount University Loyola Law School, where he was a faculty member for 17 years, the announcement said. Read more...

Applications for new creative writing minor to open in fall

UCLA’s new creative writing minor will open applications this fall. The minor will require students to take two courses in a core genre – either short story or poetry – after completing two lower-division English courses, according to the 2023-2024 course catalog. Read more...

Community remembers Amy Lohmann for her service to students, patients

Amy Lohmann, a continuing lecturer at the UCLA School of Nursing, died Aug. 14 from breast cancer. She was 46 years old. Lohmann joined the school in 2012 after receiving her master’s degree in nursing from UCLA in 2005. Read more...

UCLA students awarded Obama-Chesky Scholarship for Public Service

This post was updated Sept. 4 at 10:48 p.m. Two UCLA students earned a scholarship for excellence in public service and leadership. The Obama-Chesky Scholarship for Public Service, also called the Voyager Scholarship, was founded by former President Barack Obama’s family and Airbnb CEO Brian Chesky to support third-year college students who demonstrate exceptional intellectual curiosity and commitment toward careers in public service, according to the scholarship’s website. Former Bruins support picket line amid SAG-AFTRA strike

The Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists began the strike July 14 following an unsatisfactory negotiation with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers on its latest contract, according to the TV/Theatrical/Streaming strike order.
