UCLA’s open campus raises questions around student safety

UCLA’s open-access campus has led some students to express concerns about safety, particularly surrounding on-campus housing. Lives Without Knives hosts vegan small businesses, advocates at VegFest

Vegan booths and food trucks lined Wilson Plaza for VegFest on Jan. 18 to showcase local businesses and promote a plant-based diet. The event, hosted by the youth-led organization Lives Without Knives, was held to educate UCLA students about veganism and the ease of a vegan lifestyle, said Chandni Sacheti, the organization’s founder. UCLA Health to acquire West Hills Hospital and Medical Center

This post was updated March 29 at 6:01 p.m. UCLA Health has received approval to acquire the 260-bed West Hills Hospital and Medical Center. The proposed expansion was approved by the UC Board of Regents and will help UCLA Health mitigate issues with capacity constraints, said a UCLA Health spokesperson in an emailed statement. UCLA appoints Athena Jackson as Norman and Armena Powell University Librarian

This post was updated Jan. 25 at 10:03 p.m. Former UCLA director of library special collections Athena Jackson will be the next Norman and Armena Powell University Librarian, UCLA announced Thursday.  Jackson will start in the role March 1, succeeding Virginia Steel – who had occupied the position since 2013, according to an announcement from Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost Darnell Hunt.
