Students urged the UC to protect its researchers and increase transparency amid federal negotiations to restore UCLA’s frozen research grants. The Trump administration suspended about 800 of UCLA’s research grants from the National Institutes of Health, the National Science Foundation and the United States Department of Energy in late July. A May Reddit post showing a dumpster bin filled with books, allegedly behind Olympic and Centennial residential halls, sparked outrage and confusion among students.
