Student organizations emphasize campus resources for homelessness, food insecurity

There are many resources students experiencing hunger and homelessness may not know about, according to UCLA student and community leaders at a panel Tuesday. The Bruin McKinney Vento Initiative supports the academic success of students experiencing homelessness by providing them with access to basic needs, 580 Cafe helps students find food resources in local communities during the pandemic, and Swipe Out Hunger collects residential Hall meal swipes and donates them to students. UCLA Labor Center study reveals pandemic’s effects on student workers

The COVID-19 pandemic has made it harder for student workers to balance their studies and their jobs, a UCLA study found. Student workers experienced educational, financial and mental health hardships balancing their academic and work responsibilities, according to a September study from the Workers and Learners project at the UCLA Labor Center. UCLA nurses hold vigil to protest working conditions, highlight safety concerns

Free speech group wins lawsuit against UCLA for violation of public records law

A state court judgment in late October stated that UCLA violated a public records law by repeatedly delaying records requests. UCLA agreed to a court judgment stating the university violated the California Public Records Act, in response to a lawsuit filed by the Foundation for Individual Rights in Education, a free speech advocacy group.
