Man arrested for stealing posters, carrying weapons on UCLA’s campus

This post was updated Aug. 12 at 6:43 p.m. UCPD arrested a man who allegedly stole posters of prominent Black figures from Haines Hall while carrying multiple weapons, including a stun gun, on campus Saturday.  Brian Royal-Rubin, 37, was charged Tuesday with felony burglary, the violation of civil rights, the possession of a weapon at a university and a hate crime enhancement Jeffrey Chobanian, the acting captain of the UCPD administrative and operations bureau, said in an emailed statement. Man arrested for allegedly stealing rare Chinese manuscripts from UCLA libraries

A man was arrested Tuesday after allegedly using false identities to steal over $200,000 worth of rare Chinese manuscripts from the UCLA Library system. Jeffrey Ying, a resident of Fremont, California, allegedly stole manuscripts from the UCLA East Asian Library and UCLA Library Special Collections and replaced them with false copies multiple times since October 2024, according to an affidavit filed with a criminal complaint. UCLA ethnic studies centers’ posters, bulletin boards targeted with vandalism

The posters and bulletin boards outside UCLA’s ethnic studies centers have been the target of over a dozen vandalism incidents since April. Incidents have involved the removal or destruction of posters, flyers and office placards, said Jeffrey Chobanian, the acting captain of the UCPD administrative and operations bureau, in an emailed statement.
