Christabelle Marbun creates best-selling poetry, balances singing, acting, studies

Christabelle Marbun started acting at two years old because her mother could not find a babysitter. By 12, she had been nominated for an award. The third-year philosophy student said she immigrated to Pasadena from Jakarta at 12 years old and was offered a chance to act in Hollywood after a showcase in Disney World in Singapore. Bold Beauty at UCLA spotlights beauty in disability through photo-stories

Bold Beauty at UCLA is bringing its vision of the connection between art and disability to campus. The club is a chapter of the Bold Beauty Project – a national organization that pairs women with disabilities and photographers to create “photo-stories” of each model, according to its website. Sandra Harding, pioneering feminism scholar and former UCLA professor, dies at 89

Sandra Harding, a former distinguished professor of education and gender studies, died March 5. She was 89. Internationally recognized for developing “standpoint theory” – which frames science as shaped by cultural and social contexts rather than as purely objective – Harding’s work critiqued classic academic theories that often overlooked the impacts of race, gender and ethnicity on knowledge production and the practice of science. 2 protesters arrested during on-campus demonstration remembering Nakba Day

This post was updated May 16 at 12:24 a.m. Two people were arrested during a demonstration held Thursday by pro-Palestine organizations at UCLA in remembrance of the 1948 Nakba.  The demonstration was hosted by several campus organizations – including Students for Justice in Palestine, a temporarily suspended organization – and intended to recognize Nakba Day – which recognizes when around 700,000 Palestinians were expelled by Israeli forces during the 1948 Arab-Israeli war.  “The day is important to recognize today because it just demonstrates the longevity of the violence of the Zionist entity against Palestinians and the fact that it did not start October 7,” said Mohammed, an SJP spokesperson who was granted partial anonymity due to fear of retaliation. Ralina Joseph to become UCLA’s inaugural vice provost of inclusive excellence
