Covered California to add surcharge to Silver plan in 2018

California’s state health insurance agency announced a surcharge Wednesday to some insurance policies in its 2018 health plan. Covered California added a 12.4 percent surcharge on its Silver plan, the second-least expensive plan, because the federal government did not indicate whether it would continue funding cost-sharing reduction reimbursements next year. Student advocacy group campaigns for UC to use renewable energy

A statewide student advocacy group is campaigning to have University of California campuses use 100 percent renewable energy by 2050. UCLA social welfare professors earn grant to study US civic engagement

Two UCLA professors have received a $100,000 grant to research civic engagement in the United States. The Corporation for National and Community Service, a federal agency that oversees national volunteer organizations such as AmeriCorps, awarded a National Service and Civic Engagement Research grant to assistant professor Laura Wray-Lake and professor Laura Abrams, who both work in the Luskin School of Public Affairs. UCLA students, faculty celebrate Indigenous Peoples Day in event

UCLA making campus workers use multifactor authentication online

UCLA is requiring faculty, student workers and staff to enroll in a security enhancement for their login to UCLA internet applications by Oct. 31. All campus faculty, staff and student workers will be required to use multifactor authentication when signing into UCLA applications, said Andrew Wissmiller, associate vice chancellor of information technology services, in a staffwide email last week. UCLA starts new apps to notify students about campus safety conditions

UCLA now has several mobile applications to better reach students and faculty in the event of an emergency. Michael Beck, administrative vice chancellor, said in an email statement Monday students and faculty can download the Bruins Safe mobile app so they can better prepare themselves for emergency situations.
