New social science master’s program offers interdisciplinary approach

A new social science master’s program aims to help students develop an interdisciplinary approach to solving social problems. The Master of Social Science Program, which launched in September, teaches its 20 students how to address complex social issues such as environmental degradation and economic inequality by collaborating with various social science departments, said Juliet Williams, chair of the Social Science Interdepartmental Program and a professor of gender studies. New tax plan proposed by GOP could hurt students and universities

A tax bill House Republicans introduced Thursday would cut tax benefits for college students and higher education institutions. The plan reduces tax credits college students receive for tuition by categorizing employer-provided tuition payments as taxable income and eliminating a deduction on the interest college alumni pay on student loans. Cultural heritage institute to fund new Persian linguistics fellowship

The UCLA department of linguistics is establishing a fellowship in Persian linguistics with a $1 million donation from a Iranian culture institute, the university announced Monday. Read more...

UCLA engineering school opens resource center for transfer students
