UCLA officials and David Geffen dedicated Geffen Hall on Thursday afternoon at an event attended by 200 medical students, faculty and guests. Geffen, an entertainment executive and philanthropist, donated $200 million to the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA and created a $100 million scholarship fund for incoming medical students. The UCLA Herb Alpert School of Music launched a center to combine performance with the humanities with an event on Monday. The Center for Musical Humanities held a symposium titled “Anthem: Remixing Race and Nation.” The event featured a concert with different interpretations of the national anthem and a panel discussing the relationship between music and nationalism.
