Engineering school creates endowed chair named for former dean

The Henry Samueli School of Engineering and Applied Science created the Vijay K. Dhir Chair in Engineering on Friday after receiving donations totaling $1 million. The position, named after the school’s former dean, was created with donations from about 100 alumni, faculty members and other supporters, who worked with Dhir during the 14 years he served as dean. Candidates discuss student advocacy, representation at USAC debate

UCLA workers call for employment priority at new Luskin Center

Union workers protested UCLA’s lack of transparency in hiring staff for the new Meyer and Renee Luskin Conference Center Thursday morning outside Covel Commons. About 15 uniformed employees from Covel dining hall and Bruin Cafe protested with the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees Local 3299, chanting, “No poverty wages” and “Equal pay for equal work.” Organizers also protested by the flagpole near the Humanities Building Thursday afternoon. Mixed Heritage Conference to encourage students to embrace background

Members of UCLA’s Mixed Student Union come from a variety of backgrounds and ethnicities, but one question unites them. “What are you?” The union, founded in 2010 as the Hapa Club, hosts social events or discussions every week, on topics such as microagressions and racial profiling, said Ariel Pezner, MSU co-director and third-year environmental science student.
