Committee recommends removal of Chávez’s name from Chicana/o studies department

This post was updated March 29 at 8:09 p.m. UCLA’s Honorific Naming Committee unanimously recommended the removal of Cesár E. Chávez’s name from the Department of Chicana/o and Central American Studies on Friday, following a New York Times investigation that revealed his alleged sex abuse.  The committee – which received the request from the department Wednesday – sent its recommendation to Chancellor Julio Frenk and Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost Darnell Hunt, according to a Friday letter obtained by the Daily Bruin. United Auto Workers units finalize agreements with UC, avoid strike

This post was updated March 24 at 9:10 a.m. Three United Auto Workers units ratified contracts with the UC on Friday, averting a strike after months of bargaining.  The three units – UAW Local 4811’s academic student employees unit, Research and Public Service Professionals-UAW and Student Services and Advising Professionals-UAW – represent more than 40,000 UC academic and research employees, including teaching assistants. Attending UCLA’s School of Dentistry is going to get more expensive

SAN FRANCISCO – The UC Board of Regents approved a tuition increase for UCLA’s dentistry program at its Wednesday meeting. The academic and student affairs committee approved the tuition increase for the dentistry program – as well as for a nursing program at UC Irvine and pharmacy programs at UCI and UC San Francisco – at its bimonthly meeting, held Tuesday and Wednesday at UCSF.
