Experts voice concerns about environmental impact of wildfire rebuilding

Urban planners expressed environmental concerns about Gov. Gavin Newsom’s recent rebuilding efforts following January’s Los Angeles County wildfires. Shortly after multiple severe wildfires broke out in the LA area in January, Newsom announced plans to rebuild the affected regions, including signing an executive order to clear debris quickly, waiving California Environmental Quality Act permit requirements to rebuild homes and businesses faster and securing federal funds to repair damaged infrastructure. UCLA School of Medicine hosts panel to highlight Black professionals in health

Speakers at a David Geffen School of Medicine panel shared their career accomplishments and collective experiences as Black professionals in medicine Feb. 19. The Legacy We Build: Celebrating Black Staff Excellence event – hosted by the DGSOM Office for Inclusive Excellence – recognized the contributions of Black professionals and aimed to foster a strong sense of community, according to the DGSOM website. LA City Council introduces policies to protect immigrants without legal status

The Los Angeles City Council proposed new legislative policy Feb. 4 that would strengthen labor and immigration protections. The policy includes a citywide “Know Your Rights” campaign for immigrants without legal status, city notifications about United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement presence and nonprofit legal aid at LAX.
