Organization gives medical center ‘A’ grade for patient safety

The Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center achieved its highest patient safety grade in recent years, according to a nationwide report on hospitals released last week. The Leapfrog Group, a nonprofit organization that advocates for hospital performance transparency, gave the medical center an “A” safety grade for fall 2017 after reviewing its data on medical errors, injuries, accidents and infections. Research discovers mobile home parks lack access to quality water service

UCLA researchers in the Luskin School of Public Affairs found that mobile home parks in California receive inadequate, poor-quality water service. In a study published in October, Gregory Pierce, an adjunct assistant professor in urban planning, and Silvia Gonzalez, a doctoral student in urban planning, assessed drinking water quality and access in mobile home parks in California. Computer science department appoints new chair

Dentistry professor studies medical benefits of nanodiamonds

UCLA researchers are using microscopic carbon molecules for medical procedures and experiments ranging from cancer drug delivery to root canals. These microscopic carbon molecules, known as nanodiamonds, are five nanometers in diameter and shaped like soccer balls with sharper edges, said Dean Ho, a professor in the School of Dentistry.
