Student organization coalition files amicus brief supporting lawsuit against Trump

This post was updated Nov. 5 at 1:02 a.m. A coalition of 25 student organizations filed an amicus brief Thursday in support of a lawsuit against President Donald Trump that alleged research funding suspensions to UCLA and subsequent settlement demands violated employees’ free speech.  The student organizations – filing under the name Students for Higher Education – said in the brief that the federal government’s “ruinous cuts to federal research funding,” its $1.2 billion settlement demand and attacks on international students obstruct the constitutionally protected free speech of students and faculty members.
