Q&A: Vice Chancellor Jerry Kang discusses bureaucracy, discrimination

Jerry Kang, UCLA’s first vice chancellor of equity, diversity and inclusion, is in charge of investigating cases of discrimination on campus. UCLA created the position last year in response to the Moreno Report, a 2013 report headed by California Supreme Court Justice Carlos Moreno who alleged UCLA’s procedures for investigating cases of discrimination were inadequate. UCLA Academic Senate, faculty rally to discuss new pension plan

UCLA faculty members expressed their opinions and concerns about the new University of California-wide pension plan at a town hall meeting Thursday. Susan Cochran, vice chair of the UCLA Academic Senate, said the senate held the meeting to better understand faculty opinions before making recommendations to the systemwide senate. Read more...

UC mandates sexual harassment e-course for faculty

University of California faculty and supervisors will be required to take an online course intended to inform them about new sexual harassment and assault policies. By the end of January, the UC will launch two new e-courses that will quiz faculty members on the systemwide changes in sexual assault investigation policies, said UC spokesperson Rebecca Trounson. Assemblymen introduce bill to cap nonresident students on UC campuses

A bill brought to the California legislature Tuesday will limit the number of out-of-state students that can be enrolled at the University of California. If approved, Assembly Bill 1711 would cap the out-of-state and international student enrollment for undergraduates at 15.5 percent across the nine UC campuses. Read more...
