University of California President Janet Napolitano announced Wednesday she will be stepping down from her position effective Aug. 1, 2020. Napolitano, who became the first ever female UC president in September 2013, announced her resignation at the September meeting of the UC Board of Regents at UCLA. Read more...

Over 2,000 academic researchers at the University of California signed a petition urging the UC to stop stalling negotiations, according to a press release. Academic Researchers United/United Auto Workers Local 5810, the union representing over 4,000 UC academic researchers, has been bargaining with the UC since May for its first-ever contract. The California Digital Library launched a new project this month to support open-access publishing. Arcadia, a charitable fund started by philanthropists Lisbet Rausing and Peter Baldwin, is funding the Next Generation Library Publishing project with a $2.2 million grant. Read more...
