It seems as though many were unaware that our environment was in jeopardy until the concept of "Go Green" shirts, organic hemp-material bed sheets, and labels of "Reduce, Reuse, Recycle" emerged. Studying abroad a chance for global understanding

A lot of people thought I was crazy to go study for four months in Vietnam. But having returned to the United States, I have to say that I found studying abroad such a critical, life-changing experience that it needs to be mandatory. The UC system should seriously consider this in our globalizing, tumultuous age. But more importantly, it is up to the students to take the initiative, no matter what their ages or majors. I noticed in the column "Government's use of "˜God' not a sin" (Jan. 6) that the author has failed to mention some seemingly minor, but actually vital, information. Two of the examples he mentioned of "ceremonial deism" are not actually part of any sort of American history we should be proud of. Read more...
