Multiple injuries leaves UCLA football floundering as end of season looms

UCLA football player’s decision to retire sparks Twitter discourse

A barren UCLA linebacker corps just got a little more bare, albeit with some Twitter fireworks. Redshirt freshman Breland Brandt announced his medical retirement from football after suffering four concussions in three years, but his decision wasn’t taken well by everyone on the Bruins’ football staff. Utah hands UCLA football second-straight blowout loss of 48-17

This post was updated Nov. 5 at 4:12 p.m. UCLA wrote another chapter of its Jekyll-and-Hyde season Friday. UCLA’s defense held Utah to only 44 yards on its first 17 plays of the game, but the Utes (5-4, 2-4 Pac-12) finished the game with 462 yards on their last 55 plays. Read more...

Without Josh Rosen, UCLA trails 17-10 against Utah at halftime

The good news is, junior quarterback Josh Rosen’s absence wasn’t a huge factor in the first half of UCLA’s game against Utah. His backup, redshirt freshman Devon Modster, completed all seven of his passes for 101 yards and a touchdown, but a costly fumble turnover on special teams and two long, grinding drives by the Utes to end the second quarter led to a 17-10 Bruin deficit at halftime.
