Katherine Mertz, an assistant coach at UCLA for the past five seasons, was named UNLV women’s soccer coach on Friday. Mertz, whose primary responsibility had been coaching the Bruin goalkeepers, helped guide UCLA to three berths in the College Cup, including an appearance in the NCAA title game this past December.
