Softball: Softball selected to host regional game

Despite struggling against the Pac-10’s best earlier this season, UCLA was selected Monday to host an NCAA softball regional. In the past two years the Bruins were one of the three best teams in the nation, but were shipped off to South Carolina and Fresno State for regionals because of the low quality of UCLA’s Easton Stadium. Chelsea Johnson experimented with a nine-stride approach to pole vaulting Saturday. And, in the UCLA sophomore’s own words, “It was a miserable failure.” Johnson, the NCAA record-holder in the pole vault, never cleared the bar once against USC, failing on all three attempts at her opening height of 12 feet, 10 inches.
