Newsom vetoes bill, which would have allowed undocumented students campus jobs
This post was updated Sept. 27 at 11:01 p.m. Gov. Gavin Newsom vetoed a bill Sunday that would have allowed undocumented students to hold jobs on public university campuses across the state. Assembly Bill 713 – the Opportunity for All Act – would have prevented the UC, California State University and California Community Colleges from barring undocumented students from on-campus jobs because they are unable to provide proof of federal work authorization. Regents report uncertainty, ‘structural deficits’ in University budget
The University’s revenues are increasingly falling short of its operating expenses, the UC Board of Regents said at its meeting Wednesday. The regents’ Finance and Capital Strategies Committee heard presentations on the UC’s budget and updates on the UCLA West Valley Medical Center and UCLA Research Park projects during its Tuesday and Wednesday meetings at UCLA. Regents hear comment on UCLA childcare center closures, SAT/ACT reinstatement
Faculty, students and parents urged the UC Board of Regents to reverse the closure of UCLA’s childcare centers during the regents’ meetings Monday to Wednesday. The Early Care and Education program, which includes the Krieger and University Village centers, will close in June 2027 because of budget constraints, Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost Darnell Hunt announced in an August email to parents. UC Academic Senate to consider SBAC as potential SAT, ACT alternative
The UC is considering introducing an alternative standardized test in addition to the SAT and ACT for first-year undergraduate admissions. The UC Academic Senate will decide whether or not to recommend reinstating the SAT and ACT for undergraduate admissions by June 2027. Read more...

California Legislature approves bill to allow undocumented students to hold campus jobs
The California Legislature approved a bill Friday that would allow undocumented students to hold campus jobs at UCLA and other public universities across the state.
