Healthy Campus Initiative introduces amphitheater garden at Sunset Rec

Students can now enjoy a new amphitheater garden in the Sunset Canyon Recreation Center, following a launch event Thursday afternoon. The UCLA Healthy Campus Initiative held an opening event called Dream Revolution to introduce the renovated amphitheater, which has several garden beds on its highest level. Read more...

Graduate student housing opportunities to grow

Graduate students may get more housing opportunities in a few years, after UCLA administrators decided to change their proposal for new housing projects. Bruins United sanctioned for sponsorship, social media violations

The undergraduate student government election board posted several sanctions Wednesday night, extending a previous sanction and sanctioning candidates for social media violations. Community experts debate county’s proposals for reducing homelessness

UCLA experts and community leaders have opposing views on the effectiveness of strategies Los Angeles County is considering to combat homelessness. The county is discussing Thursday its 2017-2018 budget proposal and how it will allocate revenue from Measure H, a measure that implemented a .25 percent sales tax to fund homeless services. Bruin Plate receives top rating for sustainable food service practices

Bruin Plate was recognized for its sustainability practices by an organization that rates restaurants based on environmental impact, UCLA officials announced Wednesday. The restaurant earned a four-star rating from the Green Restaurant Association, the highest award given by the organization, according to a UCLA press release. Read more...

Academic student workers and graduate student researchers represented by the United Auto Workers union recently ended a nearly six-week strike in which they called for better working conditions and equitable wages. The contract stipulates pay increases for all workers – for some, pay increases of up to 80% – as well as anti-harassment policies and increased childcare support. However, the negotiations have struck controversy among some UAW members dissatisfied with the results of the contract. What are your thoughts on this issue? Only the voices of the bargaining team were heard during the negotiation process – the contract is not all-encompassing of student workers and should not have been ratified. The mediation resulted in a realistic contract for academic workers at this time. The agreed-upon result generally covered what the strikers were asking for. I have feelings about this that are not described in the options above. The contract is neither good nor bad and/or this issue does not directly affect me as a student.
