UCLA students react to LA County’s declaration of Native American Heritage Month

The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors officially declared last November to be Native American Heritage Month. Supervisors Hilda Solis and Lindsey Horvath co-authored the motion, which recognizes the importance of “inclusivity, equity and reconciliation” with the county’s Native American community. Trump appoints Nicholas Kent to oversee universities as education undersecretary

President Donald Trump nominated Nicholas Kent as undersecretary of education, where, if approved by the Senate, he will oversee federal policies impacting colleges and universities. William Purdy, a professor of education and information studies at UCLA, said Kent’s nomination signals a shift from the Trump administration’s previous approach to education, with the new administration focusing increasingly on university settings.
