Conference re-evaluates California Master Plan for Higher Education
Representatives from California college systems met Saturday to discuss issues surrounding the rising costs of attending higher education institutions in California. Attendees reviewed the California Master Plan for Higher Education and reinitiated a conversation about the issues associated with higher education since the 1960s, said Iman Sylvain, external affairs vice president of the UC Berkeley Graduate Assembly. UC denies allegations in students’ sexual assault lawsuit
The University of California Board of Regents issued a response Monday denying allegations that officials inadequately responded to two UCLA graduate students’ sexual assault complaints. Nefertiti Takla and Kristen Glasgow, both graduate students in history, alleged in a federal lawsuit in June that UCLA officials discouraged them from filing a formal report after they reported history professor Gabriel Piterberg sexually assaulted them. EVP allocates $80,000 for student lobbying programs
An undergraduate student government office announced Tuesday a total budget of $80,000 allocated to student lobbying programs for this academic year. The program will focus on lobbying for national student issues such as the tuition increase, Pell Grant funding and financial aid at the federal level, said Zach Helder, Undergraduate Students Association Council external vice president, who presented the program in a special presentation to the council Tuesday.
