Measures US, LL propose funding, redistrict changes for LA Unified School District

Westwood residents will vote on two referenda impacting the Los Angeles Unified School Board in November’s election. One of the initiatives – Measure US – would authorize a $9 billion bond to fund technology, repair and construction projects, with the bond being repaid by a tax on homeowners. Read more...

New communication Fiat Lux course examines voting amid ongoing election

As the 2024 presidential election nears, a small group of students gathers in Royce Hall to examine voter turnout. Communication 19: “Voter Participation and Engagement in 2024 Election” – a discussion-based Fiat Lux class offered for the first time this quarter – covers factors influencing voter registration, citizen engagement and polarization in the United States, said Georgia Kernell, the class’s instructor and a former member of the ASUCLA Communications Board, which publishes the Daily Bruin. UC service, patient care workers under AFSCME Local 3299 vote to authorize strike

USAC recap – Oct. 22

The Undergraduate Students Association Council held its fourth October meeting Oct. 22. USAC is the official student government representing the undergraduate student body at UCLA. UCLA student Max Oppenheim pursues professional hockey refereeing dream

On and off the ice, UCLA student Max Oppenheim is working toward his dream of becoming an NHL referee. Oppenheim, a second-year economics student, has been an ice hockey referee for eight years, climbing the ranks to become a top-level official. Read more...
