UCLA-sponsored Grieving Sun Mural captures community expressions of grief

A UCLA-sponsored artist unveiled the Grieving Sun Mural, a community artwork project aimed at shedding light on the power of collective grief, on Wednesday. The mural, which was created by UCLA arts faculty and members of the wider Los Angeles community, was unveiled outside Perloff Hall alongside a soundscape of music, bird calls and recordings of people telling their stories of grief playing from nearby temporarily installed speakers. Power outage forces premature closure of Epicuria at Covel

A power outage Thursday forced Epicuria at Covel, one of UCLA’s residential restaurants, to close early. The dining hall, which offers Mediterranean food to students on the Hill, closed early Thursday evening, over an hour before its normal closing time of 9 p.m. Read more...

UC Board of Regents votes to explore employment for students without legal status

The UC Board of Regents unanimously approved a working group Thursday that will explore how to allow all students to work regardless of immigration status.  The regents, who met at the Meyer and Renee Luskin Conference Center, first discussed the Regents Policy on Equitable Student Employment Opportunities during a closed board session, followed by voting during the open session. Student rally calls for UC to hire students without legal status, fair union wages

This post was updated May 18 at 10:23 p.m. Advocacy groups calling for the UC to hire students without legal status and fairly compensate union-affiliated workers held protests outside the University of California Board of Regents meeting Wednesday at the UCLA Meyer and Renee Luskin Conference Center.  Opportunity for All, a UC-wide student organization campaigning for equal access to employment and resources for students without legal status, held a rally that featured faculty and student speeches and a march to the Luskin Conference Center to form a picket line.
