Black History Month: UCLA exhibit showcases black leaders, achievements
Ricardo Huicochea’s gaze was transfixed on Gordon Parks’ portrait. Reading the caption, he learned Parks was the founder of Essence magazine, a composer and a filmmaker who won an Emmy Award in 1968 for his documentary, “Diary of a Harlem Family.” He also learned Parks received honorary degrees from 13 different institutions and received a notable book award from the American Library Association. Bush should fuel national unity with clean energy
President George W. Bush should not profess to care about people against whom he is about to deploy an army. Time and again, Bush has claimed (most recently in last week’s State of the Union Address) that the Iraqi people will welcome the United States to their country because we will be their liberators. But he is careful to avoid explicitly drawing the connection between the reason to go to war and the welfare of the Iraqi people. OCHC should be commended I was pleased to read Jessica Chung’s article, “Postcard campaign to address housing issues” (News, Feb. 5). The article states that the On-Campus Housing Council plans to pass out pre-stamped postcards to students so that students can send in their opinions on rising housing costs to a state official.
