Open-access publishing is focus in California Digital Library’s latest project
The California Digital Library launched a new project this month to support open-access publishing. Arcadia, a charitable fund started by philanthropists Lisbet Rausing and Peter Baldwin, is funding the Next Generation Library Publishing project with a $2.2 million grant. Read more...

UCLA Health creates caregiving boot camp program catered to Spanish-speakers
A UCLA Health boot camp program aims to give Spanish-speaking caregivers further insight into Alzheimer’s and dementia patient care. Improving Caregiving for Dementia has been an active component of UCLA’s Alzheimer’s and Dementia Care Program for around four years, spanning West Los Angeles, the San Fernando Valley and Van Nuys. College Board’s new tool Landscape to pave way toward fairer admissions practices
The College Board decided not to implement a new score that would provide context on students’ backgrounds following negative feedback. The Environmental Context Dashboard, commonly known as the adversity score, was announced by the College Board in May as a way to provide context on students’ socioeconomic backgrounds to supplement SAT scores. Frustration builds for Westwood residents near UCLA Housing construction projects
Several Westwood residents have expressed concerns about how UCLA is constructing new student housing in Westwood. UCLA Housing has undertaken several construction projects since March 2017 so it can guarantee housing for undergraduate students for up to four years, but some Westwood residents have been struggling with the frequent demolition, noise pollution and even alleged sexual harassment.
