Clinical trials for new lung cancer treatment at UCLA receives $12M grant

UCLA researchers received a $12 million grant to start clinical trials of a new treatment for advanced-stage lung cancer. The California Institute for Regenerative Medicine, an organization that funds stem cell research to accelerate advances in medicine, awarded the grant to the labs of Steven Dubinett, the director of the UCLA Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Center’s lung cancer research program, and Edward Garon, an associate professor of hematology and oncology at the David Geffen School of Medicine, on Thursday. Linguistics presenters shed light on experiences, hopes of deaf communities

Medina’s defense attorney refutes first-degree murder charge

A defense attorney representing Alberto Medina, who allegedly murdered Andrea “Andy” DelVesco in 2015, said he had killed her. Debra Werbel, the attorney representing Medina, a former Fresno State University student accused of murdering DelVesco, a UCLA student, said while the defense concedes Medina did kill DelVesco, the murder was not premeditated and the charge of murder in the first degree is too severe. UCLA revising policy regulating use of its trademarks and seals

UCLA is revising its policy on the use of university names, trademarks and seals for the first time in 20 years. UC Board of Regents approves loosening of qualifications for in-state residency

The board governing the University of California voted Thursday to allow more out-of-state UC students to qualify for in-state status. The UC Board of Regents approved recommendations from the UC Office of the President to loosen student financial aid eligibility and qualifications for in-state residency, after the Academic and Student Affairs committee voted unanimously Wednesday to support the changes.
