USAC election sanctions – April 20

The board sanctioned the Candidates Operating Clearly slate, Bella Martin, a Bruins United candidate running for general representative, and the For the People slate for violating social media guidelines. New study uses Google search history to track syphilis outbreaks

Google’s search history data can be used to target ads, personalize websites and now, according to UCLA researchers, track the spread of sexually transmitted diseases. Sean Young, an associate professor at UCLA and executive director of the University of California Institute for Prediction Technology, collaborated with researchers from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to develop a new way to monitor the spread of syphilis using search data from Google Trends. Student-worker union negotiates with UC, demands protections, benefits

Student workers from the University of California demanded the UC implement new anti-discrimination and harassment provisions at a union contract negotiation session Thursday. UAW Local 2865, the UC student-workers union, called for the UC to create procedures that value and protect survivors of sexual assault, as well as extend paid maternity and paternity leave from six weeks to six months. USAC candidate hopefuls field questions from student groups at hearing

Undergraduate student government candidates answered questions about their platforms and other issues that impact the campus at an endorsement hearing Wednesday. Each candidate had 30 seconds to answer questions from student groups members, which will help groups decide who to endorse in this year’s Undergraduate Students Association Council election. UC’s largest employee union announces strike after negotiation disputes

The University of California’s largest employee union announced a systemwide strike Thursday. Workers throughout the UC represented by the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees Local 3299 voted Wednesday to go on strike. Read more...
