UCLA to offer free mental health screening services to new students

UCLA will now be offering free mental health screenings to all incoming freshmen and transfer students, Chancellor Gene Block announced Thursday. In a speech at the One Mind Initiative at Work summit, a conference on mental health and wellness, Block said that students who choose to participate in the screenings will be examined for various mental health conditions, including depression, anxiety and suicidal tendencies. LA to host 2028 Summer Olympics, athletes to use UCLA facilities

Los Angeles is now officially set to host the 2028 Summer Olympic Games, following a vote by the International Olympic Committee on Wednesday. Los Angeles, which will be using UCLA campus facilities during the games, declared candidacy for the 2028 Olympics in July. Read more...

Gov. Brown announces plan to allot $30 million for undocumented students

Gov. Jerry Brown and leaders in the state legislature announced a proposal Tuesday to allocate $30 million to support undocumented students. The state proposes spending an additional $20 million on immigrant legal services through the One California program, a state program that supports immigrant Californians. Read more...

UC cancer research facilities coordinate to form UC Cancer Consortium

The University of California’s five cancer research centers will be coordinating their efforts to treat and research the disease. UC President Janet Napolitano and John Stobo, executive vice president of UC Health, announced Monday that cancer research institutions at UCLA, UC Davis, UC Irvine, UC San Diego and UC San Francisco have come together to form the UC Cancer Consortium.
