UCLA scientists organize march to educate public on funding for sciences

UCLA scientists are organizing a March for Science in Los Angeles to foster communication between scientists and the general public. The March for Science, which will take place April 22, aims to bring thousands of participants together to educate people about underfunding of the sciences and encourage greater involvement in science. Westwood Neighborhood Council recap – April 12

The Westwood Neighborhood Council meets monthly to discuss issues pertaining to Westwood Village and the surrounding areas. Comments by public officials Niki Svara, operations manager of the Westwood Village Improvement Association, said the association is working on sidewalk reconstruction on Westwood Boulevard down to Weyburn Avenue and fixed some electrical problems with tree lighting in Westwood Village. Students able to hang out on campus with hammock, blanket rentals

Students can now borrow inflatable hammocks and lawn blankets for free on campus. The equipment is available to rent at the Ackerman Student Union A-Level for a maximum of three hours, said Zoe Borden, the Undergraduate Students Association Council general representative who created the service. Career Week provides insight on how to succeed in growing industries

Professionals from growing industries, such as health care and digital media, will speak about career options at UCLA this week. The UCLA Career Center is holding its annual Career Week this week with an increased focus on helping students understand emerging industries in the Los Angeles area, including advertising, health care and social media, said Career Center Director Wesley Thorne. New bill would require notifying students of CalFresh eligibility

A state assemblymember introduced a new bill that would make it easier for college students to qualify for food stamps. Assemblymember Shirley Weber introduced Assembly Bill 214, which would require the California Student Aid Commission to provide written notice to Cal Grant recipients who are qualified to participate in the CalFresh program, federally known as the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program.
