UCLA study shows LGBTQ youth more likely to face violence in custody
A UCLA report found nonheterosexual youth in criminal detention are victims of violence more often than heterosexual youth. The study, published in January, found that nonheterosexual youth are disproportionately incarcerated and are more likely to experience sexual violence and other forms of abuse while incarcerated. Proposed state bill could extend alcohol sales hours
Westwood community members think a new bill extending alcohol service hours in bars and restaurants might not affect the area. The bill, proposed by state Senator Scott Wiener in February, would allow cities to extend their last call hours to 4 a.m. Read more...

Research Recap: Energy-efficient buildings, cancer detection and HIV elimination strategy
March 27 UCLA researchers found that green building certification programs have successfully and significantly improved energy efficiency in large commercial buildings. However, programs such as LEED, Energy Star and the Better Buildings Challenge did not have significant increases in energy savings on smaller buildings. Read more...

UCLA groups introduce six new scholarships for transfer students
